Tandem Rack

$99.95

The Tandem Rack

The Tandem Rack looks just like a slick cantilever style bike rack, but it has a secret. Hidden inside the body is a telescoping tube that extends out and attaches to a trailing bike to let two people stay together for any part of a ride without having to buy a traditional tandem bike.

Whether you are at the beginning, middle or end of a ride, you can pull out the telescoping tubing, snap it onto the rear bike with the special connector, and voila! Bike to tandem in seconds.

The only product available that allows you to convert virtually any two standard bikes into a tandem configuration and back in about 10 seconds.

Easy to install? Yes

      Easy to hook up? Yes

Mounts on the seat post? Yes

Do I get a smooth ride? Yes

Anyone who has ever been on a seven-mile ride with a 9-year-old who's too big for a trail-a-bike but doesn't want to pedal any more after the first three miles would know the answer to this one. But occasionally we get this question from confirmed bachelors or hard core solo bikers.  There are other great uses for it too. Have you ever:

Ridden with your partner who rides a lot faster/slower than you?

Been on a group ride where one person can't quite keep up?

Wanted to ride in tandem just for efficiency or fun but not have to buy or lug around a traditional tandem bike?

Been tired of looking over your shoulder to find your kid on a long ride?

Ridden with a child wants to ride connected part of the ride but by himself for other parts?

If you answered "yes" to any of these questions, the Tandem Rack could be for you.

The link bar connecting the bikes has a special patent pending design that allows one section to "float" about six inches, letting the link bar lengthen or shorten during a ride. This lets the two bikes move freely back and forth in relation to each other and, coupled with a spring system, is the secret why using the

Tandem Rack has such a smooth ride and feels more like riding individually than it does riding a traditional tandem bike.

This permitted movement dissipates the forces that hitting a rock or rut would normally transmit between the bikes and makes the ride comfortable for both riders. If one bike makes a sudden movement, the "floating tube" eliminates or cushions the impact to the other rider.

You can go sideways. The linking bar will let the trailing bike swing out about 75 degrees to either side. What happens if you go past that? It simply releases. This ability to be able to go side-to-side also gives the back rider some independence of movement rather than always riding directly behind the front bike.

It knows when to let go...

The Tandem Rack has been designed with several safety features to provide for a smooth, safe ride. So what will happen if a child on the rear bike comes too far forward and starts to go ahead of the front bike? The safety release will automatically disconnect the link bar from the bikes so the two bikes are now riding independently. A special connection to the trailing bike releases should the back bike fall.

Don't let lightweight fool you...

The Tandem Rack tubing is made out of lightweight aluminum so the entire Tandem Rack assembly only weighs about 2 lbs. But the tubing is specially engineered to provide great strength regardless of whether the trailing bike is being pulled or is pushing the front bike.

Now you see it, now you don't ...

The telescoping tubing stores inside the Tandem Rack and is completely hidden from view so, when not in use, it looks just like a standard cargo rack. But when you want to connect, the tubes slide out and lock into place. The end is then snapped onto the trailing bike and you are ready to ride. The connection/disconnection process typically takes about 10 seconds for most people.

If your child wants to ride by themselves but just needs some help up a challenging hill, hook him/her up in a snap and, just as quickly, detach and stow the tubing once you have made your climb to ride independently again.

Take it or leave it...

Want to ride without the rack? The entire rack snaps out of the universal receiver attached to the seat post with a push of a button. This same receiver can now be used for other accessories if desired.

No free rides...

Just because you are the back bike does not mean you can’t help just as much as the front bike. The rear bike can push, just as much as the front bike can pull

IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION: The Tandem Rack is recommended for ages 8 and up and should not be used for training someone to ride a bike, either with or without training wheels. Both riders need to be able to ride and brake independently as the Tandem Rack is made to disconnect if the bikes steer significantly out of alignment. The Tandem Rack should not be used down steep hills or at a speed faster than either rider is comfortable with. While the Tandem Rack fits the vast majority of bikes, certain center pull brakes or unusual seat post/head tube configurations may not work with the Tandem Rack
